Geraldton Building Services & Cabinets (GBSC)

Geraldton Building Services & Cabinets was formed in 2001 and commenced operations on the 1st September under the name of Geraldton Building Services & Cabinets Pty Ltd (GBSC). Commencing with 13 employees, GBSC now has a workforce of approximately 90 qualified and registered builders, trades people, apprentices and support staff of which 17% are indigenous.

GBSC has a significant Geraldton and Karratha depot/Workshop and believe these facilities will be utilized to facilitate the delivery of services, employment, training and education outcomes in partnership with Yurra.

Yurra

Yurra is the commercial and partnership entity for the Yindjibarndi people through a Yindjibarndi Trust. This structure results in the majority shareholder of the Yurra business being the Yindjibarndi people themselves. This model means that the business that seeks to train, educate and employ the community can also generate long term sustainable employment and wealth for that same community.

Yurra has proven contracting track record and capabilities in:

  • Commercial Landscape Construction
  • Grounds Maintenance
  • Cleaning
  • Civil and Asset Maintenance
  • Mechanical, access and industrial services
  • Community engagement

 

Yurra currently employs 44 staff 20 of whom are Indigenous. Since inception Yurra has employed 118 staff 59 (50%) of which have been local Indigenous people.

A key business strategy for Yurra is to enter into long term partnerships to deliver self-determination benefits for indigenous people in education, training a number of successful project partnerships.
